Gold Coast Marathon (Australia), July 3, 2011
As part of my 7-continent goal, I ran the Gold Coast Marathon in Australia on July 3rd. Gold Coast felt like I was in Orange County, California. Great weather, nice beaches, and multi-million dollar riverfront homes. As far as the race was concerned, wasnt exactly a world-class event as the organizers might have hoped it would be (the city is bidding for Commonwealth Games 2018 and the voting delegation was in town watching the marathon). Some of the water stations were poorly stocked or manned. The course for the most part was gorgeous thanks to the ocean front location. I ran a strong race. No PB this time, but finished with no cramps or soreness. I ran the race with my son Visraant, who ended up injuring his leg, and dragged himself over the last 10k.

I am Mohan Iyer, once a couch-hog but a recent convert to the community of runners. My wife and I live in Laguna Niguel, Orange County, CA, with our dog Wrigley.
We have two sons – Sravisht “Chevy” Iyer, and Visraant “Visu” Iyer. The elder one is a Doctor from Harvard Medical School, Boston, and is an Orthopedic Surgery resident at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC, and the younger one is an undergraduate student at Northwestern University, Evanston (Chicago), Illinois (class of 2012). Sravisht completed his undergraduate in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore in 2007.
I am a graduate (M.S.) in Computer Science from Depaul University, Chicago, and my wife has a post-graduate degree in Economics from University of Madras, India.
My career profile includes management roles in IBM Global Services, Cap Gemini, Accenture, and Wachovia Securities. I am currently in a senior IT management role in a large investment management company in Irvine, California. My wife works for Chase (Bank) in the OC area.
