Picked Alabama to count one other state down. The city of Birmingham looked like it was hit with day-time curfew. Empty streets, run-down buildings, boring downtown – Couldnt find anything that would validate my decision to run in Alabama. The race morning was very cold – colder than Chicago lakefront on a February morning. Very unimaginative course – 2 loops of 13.1 miles each through downtown Birmingham and some “suburban” neighborhoods with only a handful of spectators lining up the streets. Next race is my first ultra-marathon – 31 miles in Fortworth, Texas on Feb 26th.
