

- hacker - A computer
enthusiast who enjoys learning everything about a
computer system and, through clever programming, pushes
the system to it's highest possible level of performance.
Also known as crackers, these computer hobbyists are also
skilled programmers with a mischevious bent who break
into secured computer systems.

of connection between two modems.

Printed version of information as opposed to display on
the screen.
- helper
application -Applications that cooperate with
browsers to perform functions that the browser itself is
not programmed to perform, such as viewing video files.
- hertz (Hz) - A unit
of frequency equal to 1 cycle per second. Named in honour
of Heinrich Hertz.
- hexadecimal -An
arithmetical system, used in computer programming, that
has 16 as the base instead of 10. The first 16 numbers in
hex are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F.

Whatever page you designate (in the General/Appearance
performance panel) as the page you want the browser to
load at startup. 2. A personal page you control and refer
other people to 3. The "entry page" of a
multipage web site.
- host -A computer
whose primary function is facilitating communications.
- Hotjava - A web
browser designed to execute Java applets.
- hotlist -A
personal list of Web addresses, organized so that it
creates hypertext links to the address. Same as a
bookmark list.
- hotspot - An area
in a hyper-text document that you can click to retrieve
another document or go to another site.
- HTML -(HyperText
Markup Language) A conversion for inserting
"tags" into a text file that Web browsers like
Netscape or Microsoft Internet explorer can interpret to
display or link to hypermedia. HTML files usually have
the extension .HTML or .HTM.
- HTTP -(HyperText
Transfer Protocol) Advanced protocol developed for the
exchange of hypertext documents across the Internet, with
destinations of all internal and external hyperlinks
included.
- hyperlink - Text
or image you find on a web site which can be
"clicked on" with a mouse which in turn will
take you to another web page or a different area of the
same web page.
- hypermedia -Media
such as video and audio, which go beyond what was thought
to be the realm of personal computer display.
- hypertext -System
of interactive text linking allowing the reader to choose
any path through the sum total of available text.
