

- LAN -(Local Area
Network) Group of computers and peripherals that are
interlinked to share resources in a restricted area,
typically an office building.
- language-independent
- A term used to indicate a piece of software
that can be developed in any programming language.
- leased line - A
permanently established connection between computers over
a dedicated phone line which is leased from a telephone
carrier.
- link -In the World
Wide Web context, short for "hypertext link",
meaning a path a user may follow that connects one part
of a document to another part of a document, a different
document, or some other resource.
- live - When used in
reference to a World Wide Web file, this term describes
when a particular web site will be placed on the Internet
such as "it's going live next week."
- LiveConnect - A
technology included with Netscape Navigator that provides
a way of interconnecting different types of executable
content.
- load - When you
access a page in the web, the page is said to be getting
'loaded' to your browser. This term is also applied to
images.
- login - The process
of identifying and authenticating (with a password)
oneself to a computer system.
- logon - Once you
have an account on a computer system, you 'logon' to the
account using the 'login' process.
- logoff - When you
disconnect from the computer, you are logging off from
the account.
- Lynx - Name of a
text-only World Wide Web browser, available for UNIX,
Linux, DOS, and a few other operating systems.
